Remy Ma was released Sunday from Rikers Island, where she was being held on attempted murder, first-degree assault and weapons charges in the shooting of a friend on Saturday morning.
Remy was released after her manager put up his home as collateral to satisfy a $250,000 bond, The New York Daily News reports. Prosecutors say Remy, born Remy Smith, allegedly shot and wounded 23-year-old Makeda Barnes-Joseph following an altercation after leaving Manhattan eatery, Pizza Bar. According to reports, the incident took place after Remy accused the younger woman of stealing approximately $3,000 out of her purse.
"What hurts me is that when she shot me, she went over and dumped (my) bag," Barnes-Joseph told reporters while recovering at St. Vincent's Hospital. "She didn't even say, 'Oh my god, I just shot her.' That's what hurt me so much."
The victim, reportedly a longtime friend of the 27-year-old former Terror Squad member, is in stable condition. The incident allegedly took place while the two women were riding in a three-car caravan after leaving New York's trendy Pizza Bar shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to reports, a verbal exchange took place between Remy and Joseph about a block away from the bar. Remy fled after the shooting but turned herself in Saturday night. She pled not guilty to attempted murder, assault and weapons possession on Sunday. "I ask everyone to keep an open mind," her attorney, Scott Leemon said. "Things are not always as they seem."
After her well-publicized split with Terror Squad, Remy was expected to independently release her sophomore CD, THe BX Files, in August.
