Busta Rhymes Avoids Weapons Charge

Busta Rhymes will not be charged with possession of a weapon for a machete found in his SUV last August, thanks to a ruling handed down by a Manhattan judge. According to The Associated Press, Criminal Court Judge Shawndya Simpson rejected the prosecution's request to add the weapons charge on Tuesday.

The rapperwas facing the charge, in addition to assault, for allegedly attacking a man who spat on his car in the Aug. 12 incident. When he was stopped by police following a performance at the Amsterjam Music Festival on Randall's Island, arresting officers discovered a machete in the rear seat pocket in the SUV Busta was riding in.

Rhymes still faces assault charges in the incident and is due back in court Dec. 11. Previously, he rejected a plea deal that would have sent him to prison for a year on two assault charges and one DUI charge. Under the deal, Busta would have also been required to enter an alcohol treatment program and pay a $1,500 fine.

While he did not speak during the brief court hearing, Busta did address the courtroom sketch artists, saying, "I love it when you make me look good."
