50 Cent Won`t testify in basketball star`s trial

Judge rules in rapper's favour.

50 Cent will not be forced to testify in the assault trial of NBA star Allen Iverson, a US federal judge ruled on June 15.

The rapper was called on because he knew some of the basketball player's security detail who were involved in a bar fight that led to the lawsuit.

The fight occurred in 2005 in downtown Washington DC between members of Iverson's security detail and bar customers.

Two customers sued for more than $5 million, accusing the entourage of assault and alleging that Iverson hit one of them with a bottle, reports the Associated Press.

50 Cent, was not involved in the fight, but could have been called on because of his personal association with the parties involved.

However, his lawyer argued that since he was not involved in the fight and is not named in the lawsuit, he should not have to travel from his home in Connecticut to the trial in Washington.

The federal judge agreed, since his residence is more than 100 miles from the court.
